THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Raj Bhavan awaits Governor's approval for an ordinance proposing a 28 percent GST on online gambling for monetary stakes. The amendment aligns with the GST Council's decision made during their July meeting seeking to modify the IGST Act.

The proposed taxation will encompass online gaming, casinos and horse racing subject to the Governor's signing subsequently implementing changes in the central GST law within the state. Speculations hint at the Governor's endorsement before their scheduled departure to Mumbai on Friday.

Yesterday, the Raj Bhavan received recommendations from a cabinet meeting including the release of five prisoners across three jails with sentence remissions. Alongside this, the introduction of the Judicial Service Amendment Bill was initiated. Additionally, the Governor granted permission for the introduction of a tax rate amendment bill in the legislature anticipated to be presented at an upcoming conference.
