NEW DELHI: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has sent a notice to IndiGo Airlines after a live worm was found in a sandwich served to passengers from an IndiGo flight recently. After the news came out, the FSSAI issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo. The notice said that the food served to the passengers on the flight was not safe for human consumption and an explanation was sought.
On the 29th of last month, a live worm was found in the chicken sandwich given to one of the passengers of the Indigo flight. The incident came to light after the passenger decided to post the picture on social media. The slipshod management happened on IndiGo flight 6E 6107 from Delhi to Mumbai. The woman also claims that the flight attendant continued to serve the same sandwich to other passengers despite being informed about the stale state of the food.
“There were elderly people and children on the plane. What would someone do if they got an infection? I never wanted to create a ruckus inside the flight so I just informed the cabin crew about my displeasure. However, to my shock, the cabin crew continued distributing food albeit me informing them about the putrid conditions of the sandwich. One member of the cabin crew said she will inform the issue to authorities.” the complainant said.
IndiGo received a lot of criticism after the passenger posted a video of a worm-infested sandwich on her Instagram account. After the incident became controversial, IndiGo tendered an apology to the woman. IndiGo officials said that they will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that appropriate corrective measures are taken.
