KOTTAYAM: Marking the culmination of this year’s historic Sabarimala season, the ritualistic sacred dance, Petta Thullal was held from Erumely on Friday. Petta Thullal is performed by a group of devotees from the Ambalappuzha.

When the group entered the Juma Masjid carrying the worshipped trunk brought from the Ambalapuzha Sree Krishnaswamy Temple, the Jamaat members welcomed them with flowers and adorned the devotees in shawls.

After Joining the representative of the Vavar mosque, the devotees will continue doing the traditional Petta Thullal around the mosque and will end their dance in front of the Valiyambalam. At this place, the devotees will be welcomed by Devaswom members. After this, the baton will be passed and the Petta Thullal will be performed by Alangad group.

Thousands of people, including Ayyappa devotees and locals, participated in Petta Thullal at Erumely. According to legend, when the special Pooja is performed at Kochambalam in praise of lord Ayyappa, a falcon will fly across the temple which is considered as Lord Krishna permitting Petta Thullal to begin.
