Government proposes cost cut on student snacks for Republic Day parade

f

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Government has suggested a reduction in the expenses allocated for snacks for students taking part in the Republic Day parade. The funds saved from this initiative will be redirected to provide snacks during the three days of practice sessions and the final parade.

As per the directive issued on the 19th, the government has instructed collectors to manage the allotted amount for snacks for children in a controlled manner. Thiruvananthapuram has been granted Rs 1.5 lakh while the rest of the districts will receive Rs 75,000 from the Public Administration and Political Department.

Critics point out that substantial amounts were previously spent on providing Onam and Christmas feasts to political leaders. Now, the government seems to have cut back on snacks for children participating in summer training and parades.

Teachers and parents express their concerns, labelling the move as unfair. The children involved in the parade and training fall under categories such as school students, scouts and guides and NCC cadets. It is an annual practice for the government to allocate funds for providing snacks to these children during rehearsals and the main parade. Educators and parents argue that profiting from children's snack funds is unjust.
