NEW DELHI: MP Shashi Tharoor says that as a devotee who has worshipped him since childhood, he has no intention of giving up his Ram to the BJP. In an exclusive interview with a national media, Tharoor said that he does not think the BJP has special rights over any god.
"I don't think BJP has the right of Rama or other gods. The consecration ceremony of the Ram temple was not performed by the priests but by the Prime Minister. Senior Congress leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Choudhary did not attend the function at the Ram Temple because it was a BJP event. For that, they are spreading the word that all Congressmen are anti-Hindu. Congress has never said anything bad about Hinduism or Rama. The party only said that the inauguration ceremony was politicized. 80% of India are Hindus.
Similarly, 80 per cent of Congress members are Hindus. I go to the temple to pray. Not for politics. Will visit Ram temple in Ayodhya at suitable time” - Shashi Tharoor clarified.
Tharoor also answered a question about the India Front's prime ministerial candidate. He said that now they are trying to focus on the problems in the country and not on individuals. Tharoor added that a decision will be taken in this regard after the Lok Sabha elections.
