CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu minister Senthil Balaji, who is in jail after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case, has resigned from the post. Balaji was retained as a minister without portfolio in the DMK government following his arrest by ED. The resignation comes after the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court rejected the bail plea submitted by Balaji in connection with the case.
Senthil Balaji was arrested on June 13. He was the Electricity Minister in the Stalin cabinet. Following his arrest, Stalin allowed him to remain in the cabinet as a minister without portfolio. Senthil Balaji is currently lodged in Puzhal Central Prison.
