THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Writer and publisher Nooranad Mohan is known as 'Radio Mohan' by those who know him closely. Mohan's gift will be a radio no matter what occasion he is invited for, be it marriage, housewarming or birthday. Mohan carries a small Philips radio in his hand wherever he goes.

If anyone wants a radio, just tell Mohan. The item will arrive at home. Not just that, he will bring a radio to the lonely, elderly and housewives assuring them that they all need it. In any case, all those who bought a radio from Mohan said nothing but 'thank you'.

Mohan, the owner of Unma Publications and Unma Mini magazine, grew up listening to a Murphy Radio, which his father, Bhaskaran, treasured.

At the age of 17, a story was sent to Aakashvani's 'Kuttikalude Rashmi' program. When it was announced that it would be broadcast, Mohan cycled to inform the entire village. Again stories were sent to Aakashvani. Mohan cycled again to announce the day he would be broadcast in Balarangam and Rashmi. Information was sent to all known addresses on a five paisa postcard. Relatives who did not have radios were forced to buy one. Later Mohan's stories were broadcast on Yuvavani. A fan wrote to Mohan after hearing a story. 'The story is beautiful... the story is my experience also '. That admirer was Perumbadavam Sreedharan. Mohan said that that letter was a valuable award for him.

Mohan's wife is Kanimol, a poetess and teacher of Adoor Govt. Model Higher Secondary School. His children are Income Tax Officer Siddharth Mohan and Palakkad Medical College MBBS student Sita Mohan.
