Ate a leftover sandwich after meeting; employee fired by firm

kk

LONDON: An employee was fired for allegedly eating a sandwich given to attendees at a meeting at the office. The housekeeping employee was fired by the firm for eating a sandwich that was left on the table after the meeting. The incident took place at Devonshires Solicitors, a legal aid company in London.

Gabriela Rodríguez, a native of Ecuador, is preparing to take legal action against the firm that fired her. The United Voice, which deals with migrant workers' issues, has confirmed the incident. The incident took place during Christmas last December.

Sandwiches were placed on the table for the officers attending the meeting to eat. After everyone left after the meeting, Gabriella took one of the leftover sandwiches and ate it. The firm later filed a complaint against Gabriela to Total Clean agency that sent her to work in the firm. In its complaint, the firm stated that she did not return the leftover sandwiches after the meeting.

The company acted brutally towards a woman for eating a food item worth just one and a half euros (Rs 134) from leftovers. The union is alleging that Gabriela faced racial abuse from the firm. Meanwhile, on February 14, a protest was held in front of the company in support of Gabriela.

At the same time, the officials of Devonshires Solicitors are saying that they have not filed an official complaint with the Total Clean Agency.
