KOCHI: K Surendran has criticized Congress leader and UDF candidate from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi. Surendran remarked that locals claim elephants have visited the constituency more frequently than Rahul. In his first public meeting after being announced as the NDA candidate for the Wayanad constituency, Surendran strongly criticized Rahul.
"Rahul Gandhi, who occasionally visits Wayanad on a tourist visa, seldom engages in any constituency-related issues. Rahul might come, eat a couple of parottas and put up two posts on Instagram," said Surendran. He also highlighted that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to include Wayanad in the group of aspirational districts, Rahul Gandhi did not attend any meetings as the MP representing the area.
Surendran also criticized other MPs in the state, stating, "MPs in Kerala are ineffective. They go to Delhi, buy batta, shout a couple of slogans in front of the Gandhi statue."
BJP announced K Surendran's candidacy in Wayanad. The party released the list of candidates for the fifth phase of 111 constituencies, which includes the remaining four seats in Kerala. The candidates are G Krishnakumar for Kollam, Dr KS Radhakrishnan, the party's state vice-president, for Ernakulam and Dr TN Sarasu, former principal of Palakkad Victoria College, for Alathur.
