Three people killed as roof of bar collapses in Chennai

CHENNAI: Three people were killed when the roof of the popular Sekhmet Bar on Chamiers Road in Chennai collapsed. The accident took place on Thursday at the bar in Alwarpet. The police said that the roof of the first floor collapsed while the building was being renovated.

However, some are saying that the metro construction which is underway opposite the bar was the reason for the accident. Fire Force officials said that two of the dead were labourers and the rescue team was checking if more people were trapped in the ruins.

The officials said that the bar was functioning when the accident took place. Joint City Police Commissioner Prem Anand Sinha said that the police were checking if any major construction work was going on in connection with the Metro Rail at the time of the accident.

Although the police have launched an investigation into the accident, they have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
