DYFI activists among arrested in Panoor bomb blast case; confirms party leadership

KANNUR: The party leadership has confirmed that DYFI workers are among those arrested in the blast during bomb making in Panoor. Amal Babu, Sayooj and Athul are local unit office bearers. However, DYFI state secretary V K Sanoj told media that they came running knowing the incident and if they have a role in it, action should be taken.

‘When such an incident happened in Panoor, many people came. Local leaders of the DYFI were also among them. If they have a role in the incident, it will not be accepted. V K Sanoj responded that it is being widely circulated that the DYFI are bombmaking organization.


CPM state secretary M V Govindan had come forward justifying the DYFI leader arrested in connection with the blast. He said that the DYFI leader went to the blast site for rescue operations and that he was innocent. Govindan also defended CPM leaders going to Sherin's house after his death in the blast. He said that it is customary in the state to console the kin of the dead. CPM Panoor area committee member Sudheer Kumar and Poyiloor local committee member A Ashokan had gone to Sherin’s house.


Amal Babu and Mithun Lal were arrested in the case the other day. Police said Amal Babu was present there at the time of the blast. Apart from the three injured, six people have been arrested so far. A special investigation team under the leadership of Koothuparambu ACP K V Venugopal is investigating the case.
