Expect early monsoon, and heavy rains due to 'La Nina' phenomenon after 'El Nino'

weather

NEW DELHI: States including Kerala are reeling under extreme heat and people find it almost impossible to go outside during the day. The temperatures have gone beyond 40 degrees Celsius. Along with this, the summer rains have decreased significantly, thereby contributing to extreme heat. Meteorological centres predict that the same weather will continue till the middle of May. However, the weather stations are also about to announce that the monsoon will arrive early in the country.

Experts predict that the Indian Ocean Dipole and La Nina phenomenon will be active together and hence the monsoon season will arrive earlier than usual. Monsoon will arrive early in different parts of the country. Expert predictions that the El Nino phenomenon would lead to less rainfall and intense summer heat became true.

As the monsoon strengthens, the coastal state of Kerala will experience heavy rains, according to reports. According to experts, the monsoon, which is usually experienced from mid-June to September, may arrive by the end of May or the beginning of June this time. At the same time, the weakening of the El Niño phenomenon also increases the chances of earlier rains. Although El Nino is said to weaken between July and September, this cannot be predicted with certainty.

International meteorological centres also predict early monsoon

International meteorological agencies have predicted that the El Nino phenomenon, which affects the global climate, has begun to weaken and is predicted to end completely between June and August this year. But agencies also predict that there is a possibility of La Niña phenomenon during this period.

It is also predicted that this year's monsoon in India will be stronger than last year if the La Nina phenomenon forms by August. International agencies are also warning that there is a possibility of change in this regard as La Niña predictions are almost impossible. If the La Niña phenomenon becomes a reality, June to September will bring more than usual rainfall.

Even if the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) balances out, this year's monsoon will be better than last year. The European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has confirmed that El Niño is starting to weaken.

In the monsoon season of 2023, India received 820 mm of rain. If El Nino continues through the first half of 2024, this is predicted to be a warm year. However, if La Nina forms, temperatures will drop. At the same time, if the high temperatures continue, there is a possibility of severe cyclones and heavy rains.
