SYDNEY: Five people were killed in a stabbing attack at a shopping mall in Bondi Junction in Westfield in Sydney on Saturday morning. The assailant came to the mall with a knife and stabbed everyone in sight. He was shot and killed by the police. He has not been identified.
The mall has been completely sealed off by the police for further investigation after people were evacuated. Officials say that they have not ruled out the possibility of terrorism. A senior woman police officer shot the offender, thereby saving several lives.
The scenes of the assailant running towards the people with a knife are circulating on social media. As the assailant targeted everyone in sight, the people in the mall ran away in panic. Many took shelter inside the shops in the mall. Most of them hid in shops and supermarkets for more than an hour.
Meanwhile, there were many attempts to subdue the assailant. In some footage, some people were seen throwing chairs and tables at him. The footage also shows a man in a white T-shirt trying to fend off the assailant as he moves to the top floor of the mall via the escalator.
