CHENNAI: A physiotherapy student committed suicide after he lost all his money by playing online rummy. The deceased has been identified as Dhanush Kumar (23), a native of JJ Nagar in Chennai. He was a third-year physiotherapy student at a Medical College in Tirunelveli.

Police said that Dhanush was addicted to online rummy. On reaching home the other day, he asked his father Munuswamy for Rs 24,000. However, his father did not have that much money with him. As Dhanush kept pushing him to give more money, Munuswamy gave him Rs 4000 he had with him.

Dhanush then entered his room and closed the door. As he did not come out of the room despite repeated calls, Munuswamy contacted the police. When the police entered the room by breaking the door, they saw Dhanush lying dead in the bedroom.
The body has been shifted to the Stanley Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

The police said that there was no mystery in the death and that the youth might have committed suicide as he did not have money to play online rummy. The body will be cremated near the house after post-mortem.
