HYDERABAD: Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Punjab Kings in their last match of IPL on Sunday. Hyderabad surpassed the target of 215 runs with four wickets and five balls to spare. Hyderabad are second with 17 points after completing all their 14 matches in the league stage. The Sunrisers will be able to retain their second place in the league if Rajasthan loses their match against Kolkata today in Guwahati. Rajasthan meanwhile will have to win the match to end up being in the second spot. This will give the team an elixir and an additional game in hand, even if they stumble in the first qualifier.

On Sunday, Hyderabad went aiming for the big win but suffered a traumatic start as Travis Head 0(1) got clean bowled by Arshdeep on the very first ball. Abhishek Sharma 66(28) and Rahul Tripathi 33(18) contributed an explosive batting show that led the team to reach 73 runs in just 5 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy 37(25) and Heinrich Klaasen 42(26) held the fort and guided the team to an easy win.

Earlier today, Atharva Taide 46(27) and Prabhsimran Singh 71(45) added 97 runs in 9.1 overs for the first wicket for Punjab Kings. South African batsman Rilee Roscoe Rossouw scored 49(24) while Shashank Singh returned to the pavilion scoring just 2 runs. T Natarajan took two wickets for Hyderabad while captain Pat Cummins and Sri Lankan player Vijayakanth Vyaskanth took one wicket each.
