ALAPPUZHA: Haripad taluk hospital denied the allegations levelled by the relatives on the death of the eight-year-old boy of rabies. Hospital superintendent Dr Sunil said the relatives did not say that the dog attacked him. While talking to a media, he said the boy's relatives did not say that he was bitten by a dog or even chased by it.
Devanarayanan, son of Deepu of Haripad Kottakkakam Kanjiramparambu and Radhika, died of rabies. His relatives alleged that Devanarayan was not given vaccine from the hospital. The boy's grandfather said saw the doctors twice but did not give him vaccine. The boy was under treatment following breathing problems.
As his condition worsened, he was taken to a private hospital in Thattarambalam and then to the Alappuzha Medical College, but he died by around 11.45 am.
Devanarayan threw the ball which he had in his hand at the dog to save a cyclist from it. The dog then turned towards Devanarayan and while running, he fell into the drain and sustained injuries.
Some suspected the dog to have fallen into the drain along with the boy. However, as there were no signs of the dog bite, assumed that he sustained injuries in the fall and left the hospital after applying medicines. Vaccine for rabies was not taken. His sister is Devananda.
