ALAPPUZHA: Sobha Surendran congratulated NDA candidate and actor Suresh Gopi for opening BJP’s account in Kerala through Thrissur. She said the party should model Suresh Gopi, who worked in Thrissur despite losing twice.
She said that she will focus Alappuzha and work accordingly. The question whether she would have won if contested in Attingal, is no longer relevant. Can go forward only through the party system. Sobha Surendran said that the votes she got in the red forts of Alappuzha are a proof that the CPM workers see the BJP as an alternative.
Sobha Surendran fared well in Alappuzha and got 2,99,648 votes. K C Venugopal of Congress won by 63,513 votes. CPM's A M Arif who came second got 3,41,047 votes. Sobha Surendran repeated the practice of raising the vote level in all the constituencies she contested. This happened in Alappuzha as well. Dr K S Radhakrishnan raised the number of BJP votes to over one lakh in the last election from the usual less than fifty thousand votes. Sobha got more than that this time. The votes of SNDP and women are considered to have supported the candidate. The success of NDA in Alappuzha constituency is as proud as the victory of the UDF.
