'Mammookka only says one thing, Lalettan is so calm;' Rai Lakshmi prepares for comeback to Mollywood

Rai Lakshmi, known for her impactful roles in Malayalam cinema, is making a comeback with the film 'DNA' after a long hiatus. The actress, who debuted in the Malayalam industry with the Mohanlal-starrer 'Rock 'n Roll,' recently shared her experiences of working with industry legends Mohanlal and Mammootty in an interview with a YouTube channel.

Although Rai Lakshmi has primarily worked in Tamil and Telugu films, the post-Covid era has brought her back to Malayalam cinema. In 'DNA,' she takes on the role of an IPS officer, marking the first time she will portray such a strong character in a Malayalam film. Previously, she has played various roles alongside Mohanlal and Mammootty, but this film represents a new milestone in her career.

Reflecting on her journey, Rai Lakshmi expressed gratitude towards Mohanlal and Mammootty for their support. "A seed needs fertile soil to grow. They are the reason for my growth in Malayalam cinema," she said. "A film is the effort of a group of people and I am also a part of it."

She praised Mohanlal's calm behaviour and his ability to put everyone at ease on set. "Lalettan is someone who sees everything calmly. During shooting, people say not to get tense, not to be afraid, everything will be fine. Lalettan has given many easy ways to act and becomes friends with everyone quickly. I was surprised by that."

Talking about Mammootty, she shared, "Mammookka has treated me like family. The first thing Mammooka says when I reach the set is to give me food. He always ensures I stay healthy. Both Lalettan and Mammookka are different, yet they have helped me immensely."

Rai Lakshmi's last appearance in Malayalam cinema was in 'Oru Kuttanadan Blog,' released in 2018. In 'DNA,' she stars as Rachel Punnoose, an IPS officer. The film, set to release on June 14, features an ensemble cast including Riyaz Khan, Babu Antony, Aju Varghese, Ranji Panicker, Irshad, Ravindran, Hannah Reji Koshy, Iniya, Gaurinanda, Swasika, Salima, Seetha and Shivani.
