Confirmed ticket holders unable to board overcrowded train due to ticketless passengers

CHENNAI: Those who reserved and got confirm tickets complained that they could not board the train. The incident took place at MGR Chennai Central Station last night. This situation happened to other passengers who had booked tickets by paying in advance when ticketless and illegal passengers were accommodated in the reservation coaches.

The train to Howrah was so overcrowded that reserved passengers could not even board. People without ticket boarded the reserved compartments causing overcrowding and even those with confirm tickets could not enter the compartment.

A passenger alleges that the sleeper class coaches were full as soon as the train reached the station. Passengers also alleged that TTE and other railway officials did not take any action in the incident.

Yadav, a passenger, told the media that he was stuck at Chennai Central station and many passengers could not even board the train. Confirm ticket holders who came with women and children were also unable to board the train. The reserved coaches were jammed to the door.

Stopping the train and checking each passenger's ticket is a difficult task. But a railway official said that if the TTE finds waiting list, unreserved and ticketless people, they are removed from the train.

Sources in Southern Railway said that the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police have been deployed at all platforms to prevent unauthorized travel in reserved coaches. Sources said that so far passengers have not complained in this matter and RPF officials will certainly help them if anyone points out the issue.

Last day, the Vande Bharat Express was also crowded with ticketless passengers. The video of the incident was circulated on social media. The footage from the Vande Bharat Express, which operates on the Lucknow Junction- Dehradun route, has been circulated.
