'Superstar status is not given by audience but self-proclaimed'

Actress Mamta Mohandas says that the superstar status is not given by the audience but self-proclaimed. The actress said that she never tried for the status of a superstar. She said this in an interview given to Galata Plus regarding the promotion of the new film Maharaja.

'Irrespective of the language, stars appoint PR team for their own promotion. This is the way to get news in the media even if there is no merit. My colleagues know that I am someone who never strives for superstar status.

I am not saying that actors should not be given a place even in campaign posters. I have no such attitude. I did a cameo in the film of leading actress in Malayalam. It was her comeback film. My effort was to support her return. But when she was invited to do a cameo in my film, she turned away.

Insecurity is the only basis for this attitude. I'm pretty sure I am not like that. That's what makes me different. Have often wondered what does it mean to be a superstar. Those who strive for number one and number two rankings strive for the Superstar title. I don't care about such things anyway. The truth is I don't need it.

I don't care about self-proclaimed superstars. My job is only to act. Making sure it is done correctly and giving my hundred percent to it. There is no need for anything else' - Mamta clarified.

There is an opinion that Mamta's criticism is towards actress Manju Warrier. Mamta had a cameo appearance in Manju Warrier starrer 'Udaharanam Sujata.'
