THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM was working day and night to blame national trends and not anti-incumbency for the election debacle when the party district committees came with severe criticism against the chief minister for the election defeat. The party state secretary, central committee members and state secretariat members have nothing reasonable to explain to these queries and are speechless. This criticism scales high in value since not one contrarian voice emerged supporting the chief minister in any of these meetings.

A three-day meeting of the Central Committee of the CPM will be held in Delhi from 28 to critically evaluate the defeat in the elections, including in Kerala. Even in the Kannur district committee, criticism was raised against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, party state secretary MV Govindan and LDF convener EP Jayarajan.

There is a growing demand in the party to change the working style of CM Pinarayi Vijayan.

Takeaways from district committees meeting:

The minority appeasement that went overboard and the erosion of Ezhava votes were blamed. Some community leaders who pointed out the extreme minority appeasement of CPM were portrayed as ‘communalists’ by the party secretary. The accusation from the CPM state secretary on Vellapally Natesan acting as a bridge between Ezhava votes and Sangh Parivar shows the intolerance of CPM, which will only distance the party further away from Ezhava votes.

Some allegations of Christian sections tilting in favour of the BJP due to threats are also baseless. This has led to protests from some Christian organisations and will further weaken the party's chance to take them to belief.
