Kamala Harris likely to be named presidential candidate

WASHINGTON DC: With US President Joe Biden pulling out of the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris is almost certain to be named the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. Prominent leaders of the party are rallying behind Kamala after Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential election. If named presidential candidate, Kamala will go down in history as the first Indian-origin to contest for the post of US president.

According to reports, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and California Governor Gavin Newsom, who were also on the race to become presidential candidate, do not intend to compete against Kamala Harris. On Sunday, shortly after Biden announced his decision to pull out of the election, donations of $30 million were raised in a single day for Kamala Harris. This is a record in the history of the Democratic Party. If Kamala is chosen as the presidential candidate, the world will eagerly look up to her performance in the second presidential debate against Donald Trump on September 10.

Whitmer and Newsom may be considered for the vice presidency. Pete Buttigieg (Transportation Secretary), Josh Shapiro (Pennsylvania Governor), and J.B. Pritzker (Governor of Illinois) are also in the race to become the vice presidential candidate.
