THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has proposed a salary challenge for government employees for the reconstruction of Wayanad, which was devastated by a series of massive landslides last week. The Chief Minister made the proposal today in a meeting of service organizations.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister requested government employees to donate their 10 days' salary for the rehabilitation of landslide victims. However, service organisations have reached an agreement to donate 5 days' salary as part of the salary challenge. The organizations demanded that the salary challenge should not be made compulsory. Some also demanded that the employees should be allowed to pay the amount in instalments. A government order in this regard will be issued soon.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Employees and Teachers Organization (FETO) welcomed the salary challenge. FETO state president SK Jayakumar said that the government should give an option to pay the money in instalments from the benefits due to employees.
