Bank of Maharashtra gold fraud; CCTV footage destroyed

VADAKARA: The CCTV footage of the Bank of Maharashtra Vadakara branch, where gold fraud worth crores of rupees took place, has been destroyed. This was realized during the inspection conducted by the crime branch investigation team at the bank. Efforts have been started to recover the footage. Out of the 26 kg of gold looted by the accused ex-manager Madha Jayakumar from Coimbatore Mettupalayam, 6 kg of gold was recovered from DBS Bank in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu.

The Crime Branch has intensified its investigation to trace Karthik, a native of Tamil Nadu, the bank employee who helped the accused to pawn the gold. Money was withdrawn by pledging gold through 20 benami accounts at DBS Bank branch in Tirupur. With the help of Karthik, gold was pledged in the bank in the name of many people. The money received by pawning the gold went to the accounts of the accused Madha Jayakumar. The bank accounts of the accused and his wife have been frozen. The crime branch team that went to Tamil Nadu to find gold returned to Vadakara yesterday. The recovered gold was produced in the Vadakara Judicial Magistrate Court. The accused will be produced in court today.
