NEW DELHI: India joins Singapore to become a global powerhouse in the semiconductor sector. The two countries signed important agreements, including this one, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Singapore.
The deal with Singapore, which produces 10 percent of the world's chips and 20 percent of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, will give India a boost in the sector.
Singapore will help build India's capacity in semiconductor cluster development, semiconductor design and manufacturing. Investment in India by Singaporean semiconductor companies will be facilitated. Industries will be provided space and manpower in India. Indians will be given admission to semiconductor courses in Singapore universities.
The agreement was signed by the Union Ministry of Electronics and the Singapore Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited leading semiconductor company AEM Holdings Limited along with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Modi interacted with Indian interns from Odisha World Skill Center and Indian engineers from AEM Company who are visiting Singapore.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan also exchanged other MoUs.
