'God's punishment for cheating in trials'; Brij Bhushan takes dig at Vinesh Phogat's Olympic exit

NEW DELHI: Former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh came with incisive remarks against wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia, just a day after the duo joined Congress.

Brij Bhushan said the whole sexual allegation charges against him were part of the conspiracy by Congress and said Vinesh Phogat's candidature for the Haryana Legislative Assembly amplified his claims.

Brij Bhushan:

“The whole script of the conspiracy was written by Deepender Hooda. This started two years ago and from that time I have been hollering about the possibility. And now, everything is out in the open.

How can a player give trials in two weight categories in one day? Vinesh entered the Olympics through cheating and god gave her the deserved punishment. Bajrang contested in the Asian games without even completing the trials.

These wrestlers who protested against me have been used as pawns by Congress. Day by day, the protestors are turning into congress workers. They used the daughters to settle political scores. If my party wants me to contest, I will enter into state politics and am sure of getting wide support. Even I am ready to campaign in front of all these wrestlers.”

Vinesh Phogat will contest as a Congress candidate from the Julana constituency in the Haryana assembly elections. Phogat's name was included in the first 31-member candidate list for Haryana. On January 18, 2023, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia protested against Brij Bhushan, the former head of the wrestling federation, alleging sexual assault and intimidation.
