THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSEB has signed an agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India, a central public sector undertaking, to make available 500 MW of electricity per day. Electricity will be made available by September 2026. The contract period is 25 years.
Minister K Krishnankutty said in a press conference that power will be made available, including during peak hours after 6 pm. Electricity will be available through solar power during the day and two hours of battery storage during peak hours. This power can be used for two hours or instalments in a row of 250 MW per hour in the evening. Electricity is being made available at a lower rate of Rs 3.49 per unit. KSEB will soon sign an agreement to make 500 MW available through call linkage from next year, the minister said.
300 MW from wind
KSEB chairman Biju Prabhakar said the company is targeting 10,000 MW of generation by 2030. 300 MW of electricity will be generated from wind in Ramakkalmedu, Attappadi, Manmuttimedu, Pappanpara and Kanjikode. He added that the possibility of offshore wind farms in the Arabian Sea for Kerala, which has a coastline of 590 km, is being explored.
