SRINAGAR: Four BSF jawans were killed and 32 injured after a bus carrying them fell into a gorge in the Brel area of Budgam district in central Kashmir. The bus carrying 35 BSF jawans skidded off the road and overturned. Police informed that the condition of six of the injured is serious.
The vehicle involved in the accident was one of the seven vehicles carrying BSF jawans assigned for security duty during the second phase of assembly elections. The police said the bus skidded off the hilly road and fell 40 feet into the gorge. The injured BSF jawans are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Rescue operations are in progress at the accident site.
Elections to the 90 assembly seats in Kashmir will be held in three phases. The first phase was held on September 18 for 24 seats. The second phase of polling for 26 assembly seats is on September 25. Polling for the remaining 40 seats will be held on October 1. The counting of votes is on October 8.
