The release of the Hema committee report allowed myriads of hitherto shrouded sexual exploitation details to see light. Many such actresses’ are now coming up with revelations of the gruesome torture they faced in the past.
On Tuesday, Kerala police arrested Mukesh, a prominent actor and MLA of the state. Another actor Siddique is on the run. Two prominent actors facing jail terms for sexual misconduct have considerably tarnished the industry and there seems to be no immediate respite.
Inspired by the happenings in Kerala, dozens of actresses from other industries have opened up about the exploitations they faced.
And now, actress Sruthi Hariharan’s shocking revelation has ignited a storm in the Kannada industry with many bellowing for a committee to study the problems faced by actresses in sandalwood.
Sruthi:
“The incident took place four years ago. A leading Tamil producer bought the rights to my Kannada film and he contacted me one day. I demanded the same heroine role in Tamil and his reply just left me in the cold.
He said there were a total of five producers and they would all take turns to use me (sexual favours) whenever they felt the need. I gave a fitting reply and said they would get to feel the power of my sandals in case of any such untoward incident.
Thanks to my reply, opportunities lessened for me in the Tamil industry. Whatever the consequences, women should have the guts to give straight NO."
Sruthi debuted through the popular Malayalam movie ‘Cinema Company’, released in 2012.
