MADRID: Legendary Rafael Nadal, nicknamed the King of Clay Court, has announced his retirement. Nadal won 22 Grand Slams in his 23-year career. Nadal is a legend among new age tennis players. Nadal announced his retirement through a video shared on social media.
The clay court prodigy has won 14 French Open titles. Nadal's final appearance will be at the Davis Cup in Malaga in November. Spain will face the Netherlands in the Davis Cup quarter-finals on November 19 and 21. The retirement comes amid reports that Nadal is making a comeback in the series after suffering an injury in the group stage. Spanish star Rafael Nadal is 38 years old.
"I am here today to inform you that I am retiring from tennis. It was a very difficult year. Especially the last two years. I don't think it's possible to play without limitations these days. It was a very difficult decision. Took a while to pick up.' Nadal said in a social media video.
Nadal won four US Open titles, two Wimbledon and Australian Open titles. Everything I experienced was a dream come true and I am fully satisfied to have given and strived to the best of my ability. Nadal thanked everyone.
