Fell into garbage tank and inhaled poisonous gas; three Indians including two Malayalis and one Punjab native meet death at Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI: Three people, including two Keralites, died after inhaling poisonous gases in a garbage tank in Abu Dhabi. The deceased have been identified as Ajith R Kurup (40), a native of Vallicode in Pathanamthitta, Rajkumar (39) of Cherpulassery Nellaya in Palakkad and a native of Punjab. The incident took place at the City of Lights building in Abu Dhabi's Al Reem Island this afternoon.

The three had been working in the same company for a long time. While cleaning the closed garbage tank in the building which was more than three metres deep, Ajith slipped and fell inside. The other two met with the accident while trying to save Ajith. They died after inhaling the poisonous gas inside the tank.

The bodies of the Keralites kept in a private hospital in Abu Dhabi will be brought home after completing the procedures.

Rajkumar's wife: Revathi. Children: Neeraj and Neha. Father: Late Unnikrishnan Nair, Mother: Shanthakumari. Rajkumar, who was in Kerala this month, had returned to Abu Dhabi on the 15th.

Ajith has been working in the Gulf for 15 years. He had bought a plot of land in Mayalil five years ago and built a new house. His father Ramachandran, who worked as a labourer, has been bedridden for a year due to paralysis. Ajith was the sole breadwinner of the family. Mother: Shyamala. Wife: Aswathy. Son: Ashvith (three and a half years old).
