BENGALURU: CBI has arrested Karwar MLA Satish Krishna Sail in connection with the illegal iron ore smuggling through Belekeri port. This arrest follows a conviction by the Special People's Representative Court in Bengaluru yesterday. Sail was taken into custody late last night and will be produced before the Special Court of People's Representatives in Bengaluru tomorrow. The court is expected to announce its final verdict in the case tomorrow.

Satish Krishna Sail is a well-known figure in Kerala, recognized for leading the search for Arjun in Shirur. His arrest marks a significant development in the mining corruption scandal that has rocked Karnataka. The case involves the smuggling of iron ore worth at least ₹60,000 crore through Belekeri port. The iron ore, mined from Bellary, was allegedly exported abroad at a huge loss to the state, with only minimal royalties paid to the government.

The mining corruption case caused widespread upheaval in Karnataka politics, shaking the Yeddyurappa government and implicating prominent figures, including the Reddy brothers.
