Marx's father

Veteran Communist leader C Divakaran's statement that some left-wing politicians behave as if they are Karl Marx's father can be seen as a figurative expression. However, upon examining the different layers of meaning in this expression, it becomes clear that it holds significant relevance. Considering the phrase "Marx's father," it implies that these individuals perceive themselves as being greater than Marx himself. C. Divakaran stated that some leftists consider themselves superior and authoritative, behaving as if they were Karl Marx's father. He made this remark while accepting the Prof. T.J. Chandrachoodan Award, named after the revolutionary socialist leader.

Like Karl Marx, his father Heinrich Marx was also not an ordinary person. Heinrich brought enlightenment to Marx's thoughts. The role of this father in shaping Marx's philosophical ideas is a part of history. Heinrich guided Marx into profound studies on individual dignity, rights, social justice, and more. C Divakaran used the expression of 'Marx's father' while pointing out that party leaders are drifting away from the people through arrogance and misbehaviour. Although not everyone is behaving in such a manner, it's hard to ignore the fact that a good portion of leaders, including those in the new generation, are moving in this direction. It's impossible to ignore the reality that the next generation of A.K.G. and M.N. Govindan Nair's party are walking with the ornaments of arrogance, sheltered under the soothing shade of power. The belief that the party will protect them, no matter what they say or do, is the foundation of this arrogance. The latest example of this was seen in Kannur.

The honest and capable life of a high-ranking government official was lost due to the arrogant words of a political leader. These leaders have the audacity to impose 'civil death' on anyone who doesn't align with their interests. Despite all this, the party did not take any action against the leader other than removing her from the post of President of Kannur District Panchayat. The argument that the party would take action when it feels can be seen as a challenge to the people. From this, we can understand that those who lamented that there was a crack in the basic votes of the party following the miserable defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, will not take any steps to correct their mistakes.

The issue pointed out by Divakaran is not limited to the left wing alone. Nowadays, it has become common for people to insult each other and act without respect. Union Minister Suresh Gopi was someone who stood out as a role model by helping the needy and displaying dignified behaviour. Unfortunately, the words that have been coming out of his mouth for the past few days are something that he himself needs to introspect on, considering how the public, especially the younger generation, perceives them. It's the politicians themselves who are responsible for tarnishing the

image of politics, and blaming the media for it won't suffice. It would be good for all politicians to ponder over Divakaran's words. Time has proven that power and positions are ephemeral. Politics might be the art of seizing opportunities. However, if the people abandon you, whoever you may be, you will end up in the dustbin of history.
