KANNUR: Former Kannur District Panchayat president PP Divya was shifted to the women's prison after completing her questioning in the case of allegedly abetting the suicide of ADM Naveen Babu. Meanwhile, the Thalassery Principal Sessions Court will consider Divya’s bail application on Tuesday.

Although the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had sought a two-day custody to further question PP Divya, the Kannur First Class Judicial Magistrate Court granted permission only until 5 pm yesterday.

The police had filed a report opposing anticipatory bail to Divya saying that she was not cooperating with the investigation. Based on this, Town Inspector Sreejith, the investigating officer, informed the court that Divya should be questioned further to clarify several matters, including her benami transactions and the Collector's statement. However, Magistrate Muhammali Shahrshad granted custody only till 5 pm yesterday by pointing out that Divya had been questioned for three hours on the day she surrendered.

Divya was brought to court from jail at 11 am yesterday morning. A large police force was deployed around the court premises at the same time. The custody plea was considered as the first case. The decision to request custody was made at the special investigation team's meeting yesterday morning.

Naveen's family had earlier stated that they would oppose Divya's new bail plea. Advocate KV Vishwan, who filed Divya's initial bail plea, has submitted the fresh application.
