Attack on foreign women, stone pelting on police who came to investigate; 12 booked but zero arrests recorded

KOCHI: A case has been registered against 12 people in connection with the attack on policemen in Mattancherry. The attack took place when the policemen who arrived after receiving information that a group was trying to harass foreign women. The miscreants pelted stones at the policemen. The incident took place near the Kalvathy bridge around midnight yesterday. Though the foreign women have not lodged any complaints, a case has been registered on the complaint of the police.

The Mattancherry police station had received information that a gang was trying to harass foreign women. Two civil police officers reached the spot following the info. After a group verbally abused the police officers, the policemen asked them to leave. However, the miscreants pelted stones at the officers.

After being informed, more policemen reached the spot and nabbed the main accused. However, the accused's parents and brother attacked the policemen and released the accused who was put in a police jeep. No one has been arrested in the case. It is learnt that the accused are absconding.
