PERTH: A total of 17 wickets fell in Perth on the first day of the first test of the Border Gavaskar trophy between India and Australia. After being bundled out for just 150 in the first innings, the visitors took the field to give a befitting reply to the Australian batting lineup. Captain Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian pace attack as he picked up four wickets, including the wicket of Steve Smith. At the end of the first day's play, Australia are struggling at 67/7 in 27 overs.
Bumrah claimed the wickets of openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith and Pat Cummins, while Siraj picked up the wickets of Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh. Debutant Harshit Rana bagged his first test wicket by dismissing Travis Head for 11.
Winning the toss and batting first, India had a poor start as opener Yashaswi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal were dismissed without scoring a run. Virat Kohli (5) also disappointed with the bat. KL Rahul (26) tried to hold on from one end but was caught by Alex Carey off Starc's delivery. Only Rishabh Pant (37) and debutant Nitesh Kumar Reddy (41) showed some resistance against the Australian bowlers. India were all out for 150 when Reddy was dismissed by Cummins in the 50th over.
