NEW DELHI: Priyanka Gandhi, the designated MP from Wayanad, will be sworn in tomorrow. The winter session of the Parliament is starting tomorrow. Priyanka will be sworn in on the first day of the session lasting till December 20. The first issue that Priyanka will raise in the Parliament will be the Wayanad landslide disaster, said general secretary K C Venugopal, in charge of the organization. Some medias have reported that Priyanka Gandhi has started learning Malayalam. Kanimozhi MP has welcomed Priyanka Gandhi to the Parliament.
An all-party meeting will be convened today ahead of the Parliament session. The government's move is to introduce the Waqf Act Amendment and One Nation One Election Bills during the session. A joint parliamentary committee has prepared a report on the Waqf Act Amendment.
In Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi won her electoral debut by a majority of 4,10,931 votes. She had also surpassed the majority of 3,64,422 votes Rahul won in the parliamentary elections in May. Priyanka got 46,509 more votes than Rahul. In 2019, Rahul Gandhi got a majority of 4,31,770 votes. In this election, Left Front candidate Sathyan Mokeri got 2,11,407 votes. In the last election, Annie Raja got 2,83,023 (26.09%) votes. In this election, Sathyan Mokeri got 71616 votes less than Annie Raja.
While K Surendran, also the BJP state president, got 1,41,045 (13.00%) votes in the last general election, this time Ramya Haridas got 109202 votes. There was a huge decline here too. This time, when the polling decreased to 64.72 percent, the UDF was very accurate in saying that the vote leakage was from the LDF and NDA camps. The election results confirmed that. Before the election, the UDF had said that Priyanka would get a majority of more than five lakh votes. When the voting rate decreased by eight percent, they corrected and said would get a majority of four lakh and that was correct.
In the last general election, there were 14,62,423 voters in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. In the by-election, it increased to 14,71,742. In 2014, Sathyan Mokeri lost to UDF's M I Shanavas by 20,870 votes. The polling in the general election was 72.92 percent. In 2019, it was 80.33 percent. There has been a discussion in the front that there was major vote leakage for Sathyan Mokeri. Nota also improved its position in the constituency.
