SINGAPORE CITY: Man who bought gold for his wife becomes a crorepati. Balasubrahmanian Chithambaram has been awarded a $1 million (Rs 8.45 crore) prize in Singapore. Chithambaram became a millionaire through a draw of lots by Mustafa Jewellers in Singapore.


Chithambaram has been working as a project designer in Singapore for the past 21 years. Three months ago, Chithambaram bought a gold chain from Mustafa Jewellers for his wife. The chain was priced at Rs 3.7 lakh. Those making purchases above Rs 15,786 had the opportunity to participate in a draw. The draw was held on November 24. Chithambaram was selected as the winner of the draw. On hearing the news, the High Commissioner of Singapore to India took to social media to congratulate Chidambaram.
