ADELAIDE: Australia got off to a brilliant start in the second cricket Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. After bowling out the visitors for a paltry 180, Australia were 86/1 at the end of play on Day 1. Nathan McSweeney (38*) and Marnus Labuschagne (20*) are at the crease. Opener Usman Khawaja was dismissed for 13 by Jasprit Bumrah.

India, who opted to bat first after winning the toss, lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck on the very first ball. The 22-year-old, who scored a century in the first Test, was trapped in front of the wicket by Mitchell Starc. The second-wicket partnership between KL Rahul (37) and Shubman Gill (31) added 69 runs and raised hopes for India. However, Starc broke the partnership, triggering a collapse of the Indian batting lineup. Gill fell to Scott Boland when the score was 77.

Virat Kohli (7), Rishabh Pant (21), and Rohit Sharma (3) fell in quick succession, reducing India to 109/6. However, Nitish Kumar Reddy's 42 and Ravichandran Ashwin's 22 helped India cross the 150-run mark. While tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana were dismissed for ducks, Mohammed Siraj remained unbeaten at 4. Mitchell Starc took six wickets for Australia while captain Pat Cummins and Scott Boland took two wickets each.
