THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president K Surendran slammed the state government for delaying the submission of a report required to receive central aid for the Wayanad disaster. He termed the three-month delay as deceitful and claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament was a blow to the state government's credibility

"The state government and the opposition deceived the people by using the Wayanad disaster for electoral gains. The state government submitted the PDNA report to the Centre on November 13, the day of the Chelakkara by-election. However, the Left Front had claimed that the report was submitted much earlier. The opposition too supported the Left without bothering to find the truth. The Centre had provided Kerala with significant financial assistance, sanctioning Rs 150 crore out of the Rs 214 crore requested as emergency aid. Additionally, it allowed the state to earmark 50% of the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) amount for Wayanad's relief efforts. However, the state government concealed these developments. The Centre also provided funds for airlifting, debris removal, and other related activities. I'm sure that the central government will provide proper assistance to Wayanad after checking the PDNA report provided by the state," Surendran said.
