'This is my last day as Indian cricketer'; R Ashwin announces retirement from international cricket

BRISBANE: R Ashwin, one of the greatest spinners in Indian cricket, has announced his retirement from international cricket. The 38-year-old made the surprise announcement after the third test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ended in a draw.

"I won't take much of your time. As an Indian cricketer, today is my last day," the 38-year-old said during the post-match press conference.

R Ashwin is the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket, after Anil Kumble. He ranks seventh among the top wicket-takers in Test cricket. Throughout his 14-year career, Ashwin has claimed 537 wickets in 106 Tests, 156 wickets in 116 ODIs, and 72 wickets in 65 T20Is. He has also scored six centuries in Test cricket. Notably, Ashwin will continue to participate in T20 tournaments.

Ashwin will represent Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Ashwin made his international cricket debut in June 2010. He was a member of the Indian team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup. Ashwin also holds the record for the most Man of the Series awards in Test cricket history, with 11.
