CHENNAI: Actress Kamala Kamesh, best known for her motherly roles in Tamil cinema passed away on Saturday. She was 72. Kamala died at her residence after suffering from age-related ailments. She is the wife of the late music director Kamesh. Kamala’s daughter is Uma, who is married to actor Riyas Khan.
Kamala’s role as ‘Godavari’ in ‘Samsaram Adhu Minsaram’ directed by Visu, is still popular among fans. Kamala made her debut with Jayabharathi's 'Kudisai' and later started acting in stage plays as well. She was born on October 23, 1952 in Kochi. Her notable films include Pulan Visaranai (1990), Chinna Gounder (1991) and Moondru Mugam (1982). Her acting career also spans across Malayalam and Telugu.
‘Velicham Vitharunna Penkutty’, Rugma (1983), Aalorungi Arangorungi (1986), Again Lisa (1987), Amritham Gamaya (1987), Ivalente Kamugi (1989), Avan Ananthapadmanabhan (1994) are few among notable films Kamala did in Malayalam.
She last acted in R J Balaji’s ‘Veetla Vishesham’, released in 2022.
