Makaravilak tomorrow; Thiruvabharanam procession begins from Pandalam

PANDALAM: The procession carrying the Thiruvabharanam to be adored on Sabarimala Ayyappan in the evening of tomorrow, the first day of the Malayalam month of Makaram, has started from the Pandalam Valiya Koyikkal Sree Dharma Sastha Temple. The procession left at 1 pm yesterday in an atmosphere filled with devotional chants. Hundreds of people, including Ayyappa devotees carrying Irumudi Kettu, are accompanying the procession.

The Devaswom Board officials received the Tiruvabharanams, which were kept for darshan at Srampickal Palace since the first day of Malayalam month Vrischikam, from the officials of the Pandalam Palace Nirvahaka Sangam yesterday at 4 in the morning. Then it was put for darshan at Valiya Koyikkal Sree Dharma Sastha Temple. In the absence of Valiya Thampuran Thiruvonam Naal Ramavarma Raja, Ilaya Thampuran Avittam Naal Ravivarma Raja led the ceremonies.

Ravi Varma Raja was escorted from the Rajasekhara mandapam to the temple by the temple advisory committee and Devaswom board officials at eleven o'clock. Pandalam Palace representative Thriketta Nal Rajaraja Varma was escorted from Srampickal Palace and the Thiruvabharanam casket bearer team led by Guruswami Kulathinalil Gangadharan Pillai was escorted from Manikandan Althara.

The ceremonial sword (Udaval) handed over by the Melashanti after poojas was handed over to the Palace representative leading the procession in the palanquin. Brahminy kite circled above the temple. The procession started when Guruswami Gangadharan Pillai came out of the temple carrying the casket containing the Thiruvabharanam on his head. A 40-member armed police team led by Adoor DySP Santosh Kumar and the bomb squad are providing security for the procession. The procession rested at Ayroor Puthiyakavu Devi Temple yesterday. Tonight it will rest at Lahai Forest Department Inn.

The procession will reach Sannidhanam tomorrow. Devaswom Board authorities will welcome the procession at Saramkuthi. In the evening, the Thiruvabharanam, which is carried up the Pathinettampadi, will be received at the Sopanam by Tantri and Melashanti and adorned on the idol. Makara Jyoti will shine at Ponnambalamedu and Makara Nakshatra will sparkle in the sky when the nada is opened after Diparadhana.
