BENGALURU: The Bengaluru police have arrested a man for allegedly cutting off udders of cows while under the influence of alcohol. The incident took place at Vinayaka Nagar, Chamarajpet, Bengaluru. The accused has been identified as Syed Nasru (30). He allegedly severed the udders of three cows in the early hours of Sunday. The cows, left severely injured and bleeding, are currently undergoing treatment. Nasru is reportedly a native of Champaran, Bihar. The police have not disclosed further details about the accused.
Nasru was produced in court, following which he was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. The incident, which caused significant public outrage, led Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to direct Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda to conduct a thorough investigation.
According to the police, Nasru attacked the cows owned by a local resident, Karnan. Locals, who heard the cows crying early on Sunday morning, found them lying in a pool of blood. The incident sparked tension in Vinayaka Nagar, leading to protests by various parties and organizations, including the BJP.
