THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The education department has no money to conduct the higher secondary public examinations. The director of public education has directed schools to bear expenses to conduct the examination scheduled in March, from their own accounts.
It is alleged that the crisis arose after the money kept for conducting the exams was diverted. Schools would have been allowed money to conduct the examinations in advance. If there is any amount in excess after the examination, it should be returned. However, this time this is not the case. The education department has no money to conduct the first and second year higher secondary examinations and improvement exams. The reason is that the head of account in the directorate set aside for conducting the examinations is empty.
So, the director of public education has directed schools to conduct the examinations by taking money from the PD accounts set aside for other purposes. The circular also says that the funds should be repaid to the PD account as soon as they receive funds from the government. The government charges a separate fee from children for public examinations. The money collected in this way reaches the head of the account in the directorate. Still, a section of teachers argue that there is a mystery in saying that there is no money. There are also allegations that the crisis was caused by misusing money meant for the exam.
