"Chup baith, Tera baap ka....": Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge loses cool, lashes out at BJP MP

NEW DELHI: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has strongly criticized a BJP MP in the Rajya Sabha. Kharge criticized former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar's son and BJP leader Neeraj Shekhar for disrupting his speech in the House.

Kharge was addressing the Upper House during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. Neeraj interrupted Kharge's speech while he was talking about the depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar. Kharge then lashed out.

"Tera baap ka bhi main aisa sathi tha. Tu kya baat karta hai? Tujhko lekar ghuma. Chup, chup, chup baith (I was your father's friend. What are you talking about? I have carried you on my shoulders. Shut up and sit),' Kharge had said to Neeraj. This led to an uproar in the House and Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar asked both sides to calm down. Dhankar also asked Kharge to withdraw his remarks against the former Prime Minister.

Kharge replied that it was not his habit to insult anyone. He also alleged that the BJP had insulted former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. "Someone said he wears a raincoat while bathing, some said he does not talk, some said he cannot run the government. They made such insulting remarks, but he endured them and kept quiet in the country's interest. He was called Mauni Baba. This habit of insulting people is theirs. We are the ones who tolerate insult," Kharge said.
