Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, one of the all-time classic films in Malayalam, is all set to return to theatres. Speaking about the film at a promotional show, Mammootty opened up about an accident that he met with during the shooting of the film.

"Back then, I had the courage to perform stunts. Although there was not much safety, all the fights and chases were real. The swords used were made of metal, and they were quite heavy. There’s a scene in the film where I jump and grab a sword. The sword would fly off and I had to catch it mid-air. Every time I jumped, I couldn’t grab the sword. One time, the sword pierced into my thigh. It was a deep cut and it hurt a lot. However, the shooting was not halted. The wound is still there. But we know that such things can happen when we do these stunts," Mammootty said.

Mammootty revealed this in an interview with Ramesh Pisharody on Mammootty Kampany’s YouTube channel. Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha was released in 1989 and became a superhit. Along with Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Madhavi, Balan K. Nair, and Captain Raju played key roles. The film also won several state and national awards. Mammootty won the National Award for Best Actor, and the film won accolades in other categories, including Best Screenplay, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design. Additionally, the film bagged eight Kerala State Film Awards.
