The marriage between actor Kriss Venugopal and Divya Sreedhar attracted headlines on social media sometime back. It was the couple’s second marriage and their age gap invited jibes and trolls on social media. Despite the barrage of trolls, the couple are happily together, almost unmoved by the vile criticism coming their way.
And now, while attending a television program, Divya opened up more about her life before marrying Kriss.
DIVYA SREEDHAR:
“I decided to walk away from my first marriage when my daughter was in sixth standard. I planned to return soon and sort out all my troubles, but something forced me not to do that. I remained aloof from them for almost two years and had no contact with my daughter. She then reached her eighth grade. One day I tried to contact her by phone and luckily I got her. Soon I started having talks with her every day on the phone.
She studied at St. Mary's Girls School in Payyanur. I used to visit the school to see her with my son. He was just a toddler back then. There were times when I used to hide behind the school walls to get a glimpse of my daughter. Occasionally, I would gift her chocolates. When I had the chance to talk with her once, I asked her to do just one thing.
I told her to follow her mind and call me if she feels to be with me. One day, she called me requesting I come there and take her along. It was difficult for me as things would worsen if I went and tried to bring her with me. My daughter came out of my ex-husband's house and we reached Pariyaram police station. She signed a paper giving consent to be with me and soon I had her. Now, she is 18.
Some people may fail to discern the exact feelings that I suffered by staying away from my daughter for all this long. It was torturous.
