Malayali dies in explosion in Dindigul; NIA probe underway; body found near forest on Dindigul-Sirumalai road

CHENNAI: A Malayali died in an explosion in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. The deceased has been identified as Sabu John (59), a native of Ponkunnam, Kottayam. The body was found near the forest on the Dindigul-Sirumalai road. The body is about four days old.

A battery and wire were found near the body. The police say that the death occurred due to an explosion. The police arrived and conducted an investigation after locals complained about the foul smell. The body was found later.

NIA officials, Q Branch and Anti-Terrorism Squad who reached the spot conducted an inspection. Sabu, a native of Chinnar in Idukki, has been living in Ponkunnam for a long time. It is reported that he had come to Sirumalai to lease a mango plantation. His brother said that he had not been answering his phone calls for a week.

Sabu's three daughters are all working abroad. Only his wife is at home. The body, which will be brought home from Dindigul, will be buried today at the St. Anthony's Church cemetery in Chengalam.
