Tamil film journalist Sabitha Joseph said that South Indian actress Silk Smitha had faced a lot of humiliation even after her death. He shared this during an interview with a Tamil YouTube channel.

"I visited Silk Smitha's house after hearing about her suicide. It was reported that she hung herself using a saree. Even in death, her face remained as beautiful as ever. Typically, when someone hangs themselves, their tongue tends to stick out, but that wasn’t the case with Smitha. If there’s money involved, death can be made to appear as suicide," Sabitha said.

"When the body was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, there was no cloth covering her body. 'Isn't she a big actress, don't treat her this way. At least cover her body with a piece of cloth,' I said. Some of the VIPs there wanted to touch her. It was like they got the opportunity to touch her, just like buying a black ticket to watch a movie," he revealed.

Silk Smitha, born as Vijayalakshmi in the village of Denduluru in Andhra Pradesh, started her career as a touch-up artist in cinema. She later began to appear in minor roles. Her life took a turn when actor and director Vinu Chakravarthy saw her at a floor mill near the AVM studios. In 1980, she got her first big break in cinema. The character of 'Silk' in the film Vandichakkram changed her life completely. Later, she became known as the beauty queen of South India. Smitha committed suicide at the age of 36 in 1996. The real cause of her death still remains a mystery.
